There are over 15,000 entries in this Register and Checklist and its production has been finalised after many years of research; the scanning of many books, magazines and catalogues, and the contents collated, tabulated and crosschecked throughout. The International Registar for the Pelargonium Cultivar, Mary Spink, completed the work began and added to by others, and had a monumental task to undertake. She has done so with considerable professionalism, with integrity and with great enthusiasm, using her own special practical and theoretical knowledge base and calling on other acknowledged experts at home and overseas. She has given so much time and energy to this venture—the Society is extremely fortunate to have her support—and her continuing work is very much appreciated.

All entries have been listed alphabetically and to assist in familiarising the way the cultivars are inserted, have been set out in the same way, subject to availability of data. The registered name is followed by the symbol used to identify the name with the commonly recognised groups within this genus e.g. Z (Zonal) or R (Regal), then information given on originators and/or introducers, and references shown, along with country of origin and relevant dates.

Next come details of parentage where available. A brief description of the flower, its leaf/foliage and its habit is included and sometimes the entry ends with anecdotal information and quotes from other experts.

Abbreviations and descriptive horticultural terms have been used and these are defined and detailed in the various Appendices.

Applications to register a new cultivar can be made through obtaining an Application Form, together with Procedures and Notes of Guidance from the Registrar at: -
